Thanks to the huge gaining popularity of the Ford's small hatchback Ford Figo, Ford India reports huge increase in their automotive sales in India in 2010.
Ford reports the sales are more for their 2010 wonder launch Figo, ever since the Ford India launched Figo in March 2010 in general Ford sales have picked up tremendously with Figo topping the share. In January 2011alone the company sold 10026 Ford units as against 2,453 units in January 2010.
Touching a 10 k grand in one month is a phenomenon otherwise known to Maruti or the Hyundai but really unprecedented one to Ford. It's earlier highest monthly sales record was in March 2010 when the Figo was launched and the company sold 9,478 units, according to a statement by Ford India.
Figo alone was sold at 8,600 units in January that shows the demand for this hatchback and its performance post auto awards.
The MD of Ford India Michael Boneham admitted that 2010 has been one landmark year and the Ford had sales volume almost tripled. Ford sold about 83,887 units in 2010 which is close to 200% as against the Ford cars sold in 2009 same period. The Ford Figo total sales have touched about 68,000 units so far and from the demand and the popularity it has been gaining auto pundits believe that Figo sales will soon touch the 100,000 mark.
The Managing Director was quoted of saying, "It's extremely gratifying to see Figo resonating with customers as a great value for money vehicle. It is also heartening to see Figo winning so many prestigious awards in the automobile industry."
The company believes that sales performance of their models in general and Figo in specific will continue to improve in the coming months of 2011.
