Maruti Sx4 Diesel launched – The most appealing mid-size car is now even more appealing

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has launched the much awaited Maruti SX4 Diesel in India on February 22, 2011.

The SX4 Diesel will come empowered by a DOHC, DDiS, 4-cylinder, 16-valve engine that displaces 1248cc. The VGT (Variable Geometry Turbocharger) technology works to give more performance and reduced emission and belts out 90PS power @ 4000rpm and 200Nm of peak torque @ 1750rpm which implies excellent response as well as acceleration suiting it for city driving.

The introductory price (ex-showroom price of Delhi) of the Maruti SX4 (VDi variant) will be Rs. 7.74 Lakhs.

From outside the SX4 Diesel looks strikingly identical with that of petrol version and runs on Fiat’s powerful turbo-charged Multi-jet CRDI diesel engine. The super turbo charged DDiS comes manufactured from Maruti and Suzuti joint collaboration plant at Manesar. The plant also makes diesel engines for Maruti Swift Dzire, Maruti Swift and the Maruti Ritz with annual turn around capacity of 300,000 units.

The SX4 diesel complies with Bharat OBD II emission norms and comes with manual 5-speed transmission. As regards OBD-II norms the SX4 diesel will be the first car to conform to it in India. OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostics) keeps tab on the emission system and detects and informs of the slightest malfunctioning due to increased exhaust emissions. The ARAI tested fuel efficiency of the SX4 diesel is about 21.5 kmpl (8% more than the closest competitor) making it the best in class diesel sedan.

The DDiS engine oil (SAE 5W40) with low viscosity aids in better lubrication and the remapped ECU continuously controls the engine and acts as a communicator between engine and the user. Maruti has worked on the high noise levels associated with diesel engines and the SX4 has improved NVH performance making the cabin surprisingly less noisy. The engine clocks 14.5 seconds to touch 0-100 kmph speed and the suspension and brakes have been tweaked to work best for the heavier engine and coming with innovative detent pin technology the Maruti Suzuki SX4 Diesel gives smooth and precise gear shift experience and suits to be an ideal city car.
