Japanese car major Honda SIEL Cars announced that it is going to postpone date of unveiling of the most talked about small car Honda Brio.
Though the launch date was scheduled for March 17, 2001 the earthquake and tsunami in Japan that hit last weekend prompted the company to defer the launch to unannounced date.
Unveiled at the Thailand Auto Expo the Honda Brio concept had evoked lot of enthusiasm amongst auto enthusiasts and encouraged the Honda SIEL team to go ahead with the production and the company announced that it'd launch the Brio during first quarter of 2011 with price tag under Rs. 5 lakhs.
A devastating earthquake and tsunami struck Japan on March 11, and the 8.9-on-Richter strong quake which was followed by a huge tsunami left the country topsy-turvy and set ablaze many establishments including a petrochemical unit and plant. The country is experiencing nuclear scare with second nuclear plant experiencing explosion.
Following the turn around the Japanese car major expressed deep and heartfelt condolences to people of Japan and expressed solidarity to the country and also postponed unveiling of Honda Brio due to unforeseen events that happened at Honda's headquarters, Japan.
Honda joins compatriot Toyota in deferring car launch. Toyota earlier postponed inauguration of a manufacturing facility at Bangalore in the wake of quake and tsunami. The Bangalore plant will be Toyota's second plant in India. Toyota's small car version of Etios, Liva which runs on 1.2-liter petrol engine is expected to hit the roads soon.
