Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) has come up with an announcement; if Micra lovers have been waiting (just like I’m) for some price revision making Micra cheaper this one’s kind of disappointment for sure. According to the Japanese auto maker the price of its flagship hatch Nissan Micra will be up by another 2% with effect from April 11, 2011.
According to the company the hike is applicable to Micra Petrol and Micra Diesel versions and will be from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 11,170.
Irony is that the prices of Nissan’s CBU models including Nissan X-Trail, Nissan Teana and the Nissan 370Z are unchanged the price of local made Micra gets a beating and becomes 2% dearer to prospective buyers.
When asked to comment on the price hike of the Nissan Micra, Kiminobu Tokuyama, M.D. & CEO, Nissan Motor India Private Ltd said, “There has been a steady increase in the input cost over a period of time. It has come to a situation now that the price hike is inevitable and we have decided to increase the price of Micra.”
Pre launch there was so much hype built around Micra but post launch Micra failed to translate the hype to good sales figures. Critics always felt over pricing of the Micra to be reason for its failure in generating sales. With increasing competition from homegrown automakers like Maruti and also Hyundai the price hike will make life of Micra more deplorable and the Nissan dealers will find it very difficult to sell the hatch against all competition.
With the adversaries too offering almost similar features at tad lower price than the Micra, and with more launches from Maruti and the Toyota stables it can be said that Micra price hike will cause sales to dip further.
