Audi commences production of next generation A6

German car maker, Audi announced commencement of producing the new AudiA6 in India at the Aurangabad plant. The company has announced that the Group facility in Aurangabad will build about 2,000 units of Audi A6 every year (initially). This is the same facility where Audi A4 and Q5 SUV models are being made.

Year 2011 has been fabulous for the German luxury car maker; it has launched Audi A8L the business class sedan, then Audi R8 V10 sports car and the Spyder. The recent launches though have been the A7 Sportback and Audi RS5.

The announcement of start of Audi A6 production came out in the esteemed presence of Kurt Romeiss, Senior Manager Quality, Audi A6, Jürgen Krieger, Senior Manager PreSeries Center, Audi Neckarsulm and Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India. Dr. Leopold-Theodor Heldman, Consulate General, Federal Republic of Germany in Mumbai was also present as guest of honor.

Announcing the start of production of Audi A6 will be followed by launch of the model, Head, Audi India Michael Perschke was quoted saying, “the production of all new AudiA6 underlines our growing presence in the Indian market and reiterates our long term commitment to customers in India. The commencement of production of this next generation Audi A6 is in line with our long term strategy for India and is a precursor to its much-awaited launch later this year.”

The company said that production of the AudiA6 will be scheduled through 16 work cycles in a production line at Aurangabad plant, implying there is secured employment for 126 people for the coming years.

Company said that the Audi A6 model will come in diesel and petrol versions giving choice for the consumers. Company also believes that the new Audi A6 will be a blend of Audi A8L and Audi A7 borrowing advanced technology from the Audi A8L and styling and design from the Audi A7 Sportback. The Audi A6 will also be first luxury limo in the segment. While the company still acknowledges the role of Audi A6 in promoting company’s presence in India, they believe the new Audi A6 with its superior technology, stunning appearance and second to none performance not only push the brand further into the market but set new standards in the luxury car segment.

The Audi model range in India are available across Delhi, Mumbai West, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Kochi, Pune and Ludhiana. The company is opening dealership outlets soon in Mumbai South, Delhi West, Coimbatore, Lucknow, Indore and Surat.
