New Maruti Swift 2011 launch expected on August 17, 2011

Swift revved up so much of popularity for the Indian car major Maruti that despite a 2-3 month’s waiting period it still is one of the sought after hatches and continues giving good run for the competitors. It was a phenomenal success for over five years ever since it was launched in 2005.

After some competition the company decided to re-launch a new Swift with some changes. Now it is expected that the new Maruti Suzuki Swift will be launched on 17th August 2011 and the company’s teaser website for the new Maruti Swift is online.

Swift continues to be a staple brand for the Maruti ever since it was first launched in 2005. In the launch year it was sold 55k units but then its sales picked after the car has been rave reviewed by users and critics and in 2010-11 season it had become the top selling model in all the segments touching the 150k annual sales mark.

Even after reaching that stellar point the demand for the model never ceased although had come down and people still give a waiting of three to four months to receive the Swift post booking. Competitors such as VW, Nissan, General Motors and Ford have come up with their premium hatches Polo, Micra, Beat and Figo. While Polo, Beat and Micra are doing average, Figo re-drew Ford’s landscape in India and is giving the competitors tough chase for their money. It has already notched up sales figure of 100000 and continues to show amazing potential in 2nd tier and 3rd tier towns. At this stage Maruti Auto took a brave step of sending the Swift to its makeover studio for cosmetic tweaks and engine changes to regain charge of its slipping numero uno position.

The main USP of the new Maruti Swift that the auto majors is banking on will be its fuel economy which comes from the dual variable valve timing technology that the new Swift engine comes mated with to boost up the engine power and also run the extra mile. The petrol version runs on 1.2-liter K-Series engine and the diesel version runs on 1.3-liter Multijet engine. Additionally, the company has worked several ways to reduce the kerb weight of the car as it can benefit from the weight saving. In terms of dimensions the new Swift will be 90mm longer, 10mm higher and 10mm wider, and there is not much radical changes done otherwise.

As regards mileage Maruti claims 15% increased fuel efficiency from the new Swift which means the petrol variants give 20kmpl and diesel variants give 23.8 kmpl (ARAI tested) mileage. But to sum it up, the new Swift is a worth waiting model and seems one fitting upgrade for those contemplating on buying a premium. The company has decided the D day to be August 17, 2011 to bring the wraps off the beauty and the entire Indian auto market is eagerly waiting for the moment. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift is expected to come in 6 trims, a trim extra as compared to the old Swift. The teaser website for the new Swift is also online already, so go check @ www.marutiswift.com and see if she is really worth your wait.
