Small car by Mahindra & Mahindra will be in the Rs 2.5-3.5 lakh range

India's one of the most diverse auto group Mahindra & Mahindra has been on a good track of progress after foraying into scooters and motorcycles. In fact in the last decade the company has witnessed amazing growth.



From being a Jeep maker M&M is now identified as a giant automobile group making trucks, SUVs, scooters and bikes. But wait that's not the limit for the auto behemoth, Mahindra has been toying with the idea of foraying into the most competitive segment of four wheelers; plans to launch their small car in 2014.

The small car by M&M will run by an under 1000cc engine and comes priced in the Rs. 2.5-3.5 lakh range. The Mahindra small car will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki Alto and upcoming Hyundai small car HA/H800.

Company sources say that the small car will be built on the Mahindra's own platform. The company's manufacturing plant will be set up in Tamil Nadu for making the small car. It is said by 2013 the small car will go to production.

Mahindra has already picked its vendors although the design studio is still in the drawing stages for the small car. It is speculated that the Mahindra small car will come with both petrol and diesel power mills, and the diesel motor of the mini-Xylo might be powering the diesel fuelled small car.
