New Tata Indica Vista – Indica Vista Facelift version launched

Is it raining hatches in the auto market? Hmm certainly, hallelujah!

We have just recently witnessed launch of new Maruti Swift 2011 version, and the Tatas couldn’t hold back themselves in the race of re-launches (if we can call launch of facelift versions so) league, so the new Tata Indica Vista Facelift has been rolled out to send some shivers to the Maruti camp.

But the actual reason for the new Indica Vista making a second entry was the declining sales, and no it wasn’t due to cons that the Indica Vista had but it was due to the very stiff competition that has been ruling the hatchback segment.

The company had quite a sharp downfall in sales of their Indigo and Indica cars this financial year in the Indian market, and thus they came with this desperate launch, thanks Jesus…we have choice adding in the hatchback segment.

Although the launch happened, Vista fans will need to wait to lay hands on the new facelift version for it will be available only from September 2011.

What is new as such in the new Indica Vista facelift version?
The new Indica Vista main highlight is the clutch start technology and an improvised engine which clocks better in terms of fuel efficiency. The larger dimension gives the car spacious interiors and gives it a big car look from outside.

The front looks inspired by the Indica Manza with the triple-barrel headlight and the chrome grille will say it’s a small Manza from the front. The dash too looks like its lifted from the Manza and so also the four-spoked steering wheel and the 2 DIN audio player. The double-toned interiors give a refreshing feel to the interiors. The Vista carries Blue 5 technology (Bluetooth).

The new Indica Vista facelift version comes in a choice of ten colors and that is a standout advantage if I can say anyone would love the new Indica Vista for. However, the let down is that the new Vista facelift version does not offer anything new when it comes to safety features and/or engine power or torque.

And it is some relief to see the new Indica Vista come in both petrol and the diesel versions at a time. The petrol version runs on 1.4-litre multi-point fuel injection (MPFi) Safire engine that delivers a power of 90 PS at 6000 rpm and the diesel version comes powered by a 1.3 liter Quadrajet engine which forks out maximum power of 75 PS at 4000 rpm.

While the petrol fuelled Indica Vista is expected to give a mileage of 16-17 kmpl, the diesel one is likely to give around 22-23 kmpl (it doesn’t get better than the Indica eV2 but can certainly be a wallet-friendly hatch).

Other features include chrome grille in the front, chrome ascents in the side, alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, keyless entry, airbags, ABS, electrically adjustable ORVMs, HVAC controls, steering-mounted controls.

The entry level Indica Vista in the petrol range will be available for Rs 3.88 lacs (ex-showroom price) and the diesel variant is Rs 4.75 lacs (ex-showroom price). Whereas, the high end models of the Tata Indica Vista are priced at Rs 6.11 and Rs 6.06 (ex-showroom price) for petrol and diesel versions respectively, which is higher than its competitors such as Swift and Figo. But the middle range Vista is competitively priced at Rs 4.66 lacs and it could certainly pinch likes of Ford Figo, Hyundai i10 Kappa2, Chevrolet Beat diesel, Maruti Suzuki Swift 2011, the Nissan Micra and the Toyota Etios Liva. However, only time can predict the future of the new Indica Vista.

With all that being said, I complain they should have come up with a brand new model, that doesn’t look like Manza or the Indica…a totally new looking model. Come on…..after so many years it calls for a new model in the premium hatch not some saloon makeover version of old cars.
