Hyundai Eon has been launched on October 13, 2011 and the launch of the smallest hatchback from Hyundai comes at a time when Maruti is having the toughest time in India, with long standing labor issues and unbelievably poor sales, the company had to halt temporarily production of Alto.
From the face of it looks like the Maruti Alto which has been enjoying dominance in the entry level segment for over 7 years has some serious threat from the Hyundai Eon. There were 3.47 lakh units of Maruti Alto sold in 2010-11 fiscal year which steals 16% of the total cars sold in India and enjoys record of being the largest sold car on the planet......Alto will have to bow way for the new hatch from Hyundai now more so because of unending problems at Maruti's plants in India. Hyundai has set some stiff targets for Eon (to sell about a lakh and half units per year) and is working seriously to meet the demand for the car.
Hyundai has also filled in its dealers' inventory with sufficient stocks of the new Eon and hopes it can capitalize on the gap created by Maruti in the segment. The company has been producing the car from September although Eon was launched on October 13, 2011 to maintain buffer stocks so that the high-demand festive season can be met without a hassle.
Hyundai Eon is launched in 6 variants, D-Lite, D-Lite (O), Era, Magna, Magna (O) and Sportz with 5 choice of colors, White, Black, Red, Silver and Grey. What's more interesting with the Hyundai Eon is its jaw dropping price of Rs. 2.69 lacs (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base version and Rs. 3.71 lacs for the Sports version which comes with all bells and whistles.
Unique and impressive features in Hyundai Eon
1. Airbag for the driver
2. Tilt Steering
3. Electrically adjustable ORVMs
4. Keyless entry
5. Most spacious cabin
6. Remote opening of the fuel tank and the tailgate
7. Double DIN MP3 player (which comes with Aux-in and USB port)
8. Micro antenna on the roof
The fluidic styling of the Eon with impressive features and an economic 800cc engine is sure to cause a dent to the small hatch of the Maruti, although the older car maker admits it is unfazed with the new entrant.
