Renault India has had a surprise launch at the Buddh International Circuit yesterday night, October 29, 2011. Jenson Button and Karun Chandhok have unveiled the awaited Renault Pulse, the small car made for India.
Renault has treaded the path of Nissan, their alliance partner and has just unveiled the car as of now with the company tightlipped on price of the car. What is alarmingly surprising is that the Renault Pulse has striking resemblance to the Micra, to be exact a face-lift version of Micra with the front and interiors receiving better treatment.
Pulse is also built on the same V-platform that the Micra is, and has the same body panels and elements that are seen in the Micra.
The front has a different honeycomb-mesh grille with large, matte black slat that runs across the grille. The wedge-shaped headlights look a bit disproportionate though and struggle to sync with the designing of Renault Fluence. Simply put they are bigger version of Micra headlights.
In the back the taillights are taken after Micra again although you'd see a fair amount of redesigning in bits and pieces. The boot lid has Renault badge and monogram.
The interiors are roundy and curvy again strikingly resembling the Micra, steering wheel has the Renault logo and rear seats are tweaked to offer more comfort and thigh support and adjustable headrests.
Renault Pulse runs on a K9K diesel engine (just about the same 1.5-litre dCi engine which powers Mahindra Logan, Verito and the diesel version of Micra). The engine claims to give back economy of 23 kmpl. The company plans to roll out petrol version too albeit a later date.
Renault Pulse will be officially launched at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi in January and auto analysts speculate that it would be priced a little higher than competition VW Polo and the new Maruti Suzuki Swift. Renault has been tightlipped on the variants, but about three variants are expected and the variant that has come off the wraps was RxV which might be high-end Pulse with all bells and whistles.
Following are the features of the variant:
Auto-folding mirrors
Electrically-adjustable ORVMs
Beige-toned fabric interiors
Rear cup holder
Revised rear seats with increased thigh support and adjustable head rests.
Chrome internal door handles
Keyless entry
15-inch alloy wheels
Bridgestone tyres 175/60-R15
Four electric windows
Dual-beam H4 headlights
