After a stupendous success with the new Maruti Swift (the car has bagged a lakh plus bookings and diehard Swift lovers finding hard to give up and continue to wait due to the unrest at Maruti Manesar plant and poor deliveries) that was recently launched the leading automaker has come up with a limited edition version of its most successful selling brand Alto.
Of course the twist in the tale is the nomenclature; Alto Xplore, but one has to take the launch with a pinch of salt, as there is another twist, the limited edition Alto variant will come in the top-end Alto LXi and Alto-K10 VXi with ten additional features and six colors. The launch of Xplore was effectively corresponded around the festive time as well as to pit against Hyundai’s small car Eon (oh really can it even match to stand aside the Eon?).
Leave the fact whether it can outdo the Eon or not but what’s new in the Alto Xplore which is an A2 segment hatch and is considered to be the best car for beginners.
• Body colored bumpers, ORVM’s, door handles and a cool roof spoiler.
• Leather seats
• Bluetooth and sophisticated double-din stereo braced with USB
• All-new body graphics
• Mileage of 20.2 kmpl
• Equipped with K-series engine with a power output of 68PS @ 6200 rpm
• Maximum torque of 90 Nm @ 3500 rpm
• The engine performance enables lower emission and greater fuel efficiency.
Alto Xplore also comes with company gifted mud flap set for all the wheels, carpet mat and car perfume as well. The enhancement of interiors in the new Alto Xplore is not very pleasing, and the usage of too much plastic might not go too well with most customers. Don’t expect the puny to have a tachometer, speedo, odo and trip meters though come; all positioned on the LCD display, although looks crowded and operating them would be quite inconvenient to say the least.
Alto Xplore has a very powerful AC if you can appreciate the fact that the power of the car comes down when the AC is turned on. At an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.32 lakh it is the single cheerful factor to attract (if any) buyers and it would be interesting to see if the new Alto creates an impact similar to its predecessor, especially when there are feature-loaded competitors from other brands like newly launched Hyundai Eon and Honda Brio and decent seller Chevrolet Spark, more so because the base version of the Hyundai Eon comes at almost the same price. Eon outdoes Xplore in all departments and this is fact.
