It may have gone into the Guinness Book of World Records as the cheapest car in the world, yet the makers of Nano have been having tough time to bring people behind the steering of their budget four wheeler.
The company had predicted sale of 500,000 units of Nano in a year, but farcically the car has just touched the 100,000 sale mark ever since its production was started in 2008. In fact the sale of Nano in September 2011 has been very low at 1200, which is half of what the company has sold last year same month.
There is no one, but many reasons for the poor sales performance of the Tata Nano; going up financing rates, poor dealership network in rural India and of course the vehicle fires that keep hitting the headlines now and then are but few.
The car maker that had taken all efforts to make world’s cheapest car would go to slumber leaving sales to the fate. Instead to combat the poor performance, Tata Nano upgraded version for 2012 has been launched.
Nano upgrade gets all features refreshed; it gets better power, fuel economy that gets even better, refreshing new colors and interiors. The new Nano gets a tweaked suspension setup with a front anti-roll bar, as well as new steering mechanism, and power-assisted brakes. These apart the car comes with a new exhaust note that sounds better than its predecessor. The CX and LX variants feature two side mirrors, and if there is anything that is retained it is the price; the new Nano 2102 comes for the same good old price.
The 624cc engine now produces 28kW (1 kW more than its predecessor) and 51Nm torque ( up 3Nm from before) translating to achievable top speed of 105kmph.The company statement says that the Nano Refresh emits lowest CO2 than any automobile in India. The fuel consumption of 25.4 kmpl matches none in India.
The higher-spec CX and LX models now come with two side mirrors, while the passenger-side mirror is optional for the base model Nano Standard. Tata says the Nano also offers the best air conditioning in its class.
The 2012 Nano comes in 10 colors, with eight of them being new and more refreshing than before including Rouge Red, Aqua Blue, Serene White, Pearl White, Champagne Gold, Neon Rush, Meteor Silver, Papaya Orange Mojito Green, Sunshine Yellow, and Meteor Silver. Any Nano model comes with company warranty of four years or 60,000 km whichever is earlier. Nano comes with a down payment as low as Rs. 15,000 and with finance option with high tenure (up to 60 months). Nano is currently sold across 676 dealership outlets and the company is planning to expand the network in the coming months. The upgraded Nano 2012 is available for immediate sale.
