Maruti Suzuki to roll out MUV's and SUV's by 2015

Maruti Suzuki India is gearing and working lot to expand its portfolio with the new segment of MUV's and SUV's, but expect them to see the light of the world by only 2015. The Managing Director of Maruti Suzuki has announced that the company will recapture 50% of the market share with launch of these new vehicles. At present Maruti sells fifteen variants in the Indian automobile market but almost 12 out of these vehicles belong to the hatchback segment. However, Maruti reiterates that it wants to develop the MUVs and SUVs in collaboration with its parent company Suzuki.

When can we have the first look at the new MUV's and SUV's?

Suzuki Motor Corp, the Japanese car maker owns 54.2% of the company share in Maruti and the two are planning to design and develop the SUV's and MUV's. And as per the company they are trying hard to unveil the vehicles in the forthcoming Auto Expo or a little later.

The inside story

According to Managing Director of Maruti S Nakanishi, the move to launch new MUV's and SUV's is that they want to conquer the large portion of the auto market, which amounts to almost 18% is dominated by passenger vehicles. And Maruti Suzuki does not exist in this genre of vehicles, thus they are targeting to increase the market share to 50% and more with the introduction of the new segment that is missing in their product list.



With the company's major manufacturing unit, Manesar plant shut for a long time due to worker's strike post launch of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift, the company has seen losses attuned to 5% of the market share and in this context the initiation towards launching of new segment vehicles such as MUVs and SUVs which offer huge potential in India, gives the hindsight the biggest Indian car maker has; makes great sense doesn't it?
