Hyundai i20 Review



Day in and day out the Indian auto market is swelling with different car models from different carmakers, which includes both local companies and the foreign manufacturers. Especially the small car segment has seen severe competition and every other company have tried its hand in the hatchback version more so because of the rising demand and also the survival factor in the league. Hyundai Motors India Limited is not far behind in the race; the manufacturer launched two i20 cars- Era and the Sportz in April this year. The two cars are mostly aimed at B and B+ customers and also to fill in the vacuum created by Hyundai i20 Asta and Magna.


The i20's new features

The Hyundai i20 is braced with smart features such as the FATC or Fully Automatic Temperature Control, burglar alarm, in-built USB port, steering wheel has an audio remote and the i20 boasts of the first hatchback car in the country to be load with 6-speed manual transmission gearbox. The car looks much more appealing now and provides a lot more space compared to the previous versions. The safety features include the standard ABS, seat belts with pre-tensioner, dual airbags for the driver as well as the passenger, auto unlocking, MDPS or the Motor Driven Power Steering aids the driver to a great extent to have a comfortable and smooth drive.

Interior and exterior styling
The interiors of the i20 consists of air conditioning with heater, AC vents, cloth upholstery, rear AC cooling ducts, electronic power steering, power windows, clutch footrest, headrests can be adjusted according to the height of the driver/passenger, foldable rear seat, luggage lamp, telescopic and tilt steering and many more comfort features are the greatest advantages of i20.



The i20 features a classy and stylish external appearance with huge headlamps, round fog lamps and the logo is placed on the low-slung grille with chrome finish makes up for the front section of the car. There is also the sunroof option, which adds to the elegance of the car. The tail section has raked windscreen that flows down and merges with the rear end of the car. The windows and the door handle bars ear the body color, which gives the car a sporty look.

Instrumentation
As far as the instrumentation of i20 goes it features tachometer, dual trip meter, passenger mirror, the gear knob has a got a leather and chrome finish and the front map lamps add to the unique features of the car.

Engine
The Hyundai i20 1.4L, 1396cc Gamma AT petrol is powered by DOHC and MPFI fuel system with 4-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The engine produces the maximum power of 100PS at 5000 rpm and torque of 13.9 kgm at 4200 rpm.

The i20 1.2L, 1196cc Kappa PL petrol has a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox, DOHC and MPFI fuel system and the engine generate power of 80PS at 5200 rpm and torque of 11.4kgm at 4000 rpm.

The i20 1.4L, CRDi diesel engine is braced with a 6-speed manual transmission gearbox, DOHC and CRDi fuel system. It generates a power of 90 PS at 4000 rpm and torque of 22.4kgm at 1750-2750 rpm.

Variants, color and price
The different variants of the Hyundai i20 are: Hyundai i20 Asta, i20 1.4 Asta (AT), i20 1.4 Asta AT (o) with sunroof, Hyundai i20 Asta (o), i20 Asta (o) 1.4 CRDi diesel, i20 Asta 1.4 CRDi diesel, i20 Era diesel, i20 Era petrol, i20 Magna, i20 Magna 1.4 CRDi diesel, i20 Sportz diesel, i20 Sportz option, i20 Sportz Option diesel and i20 Sportz petrol.

The price range of the aforementioned versions is anywhere between Rs.4,51,983 to Rs.7,86,063, and they are all available in seven different colors including silky beige, sparkle blue, black diamond, crystal white, sleek silver, berry red and dark grey.

Opinion
The i20 is comfortable and spacious with exciting features and great looks that is much superior when compared to Santro. But the disappointment is the car is way too expensive and the engine performance is nothing great.
