2013 Hyundai i20 Compact Sedan to Compete with Mahindra, Honda and Tata

Hyundai, the Korean car maker has planed to launch their CS(compact sedan) based on i20 by the end of 2013. We are expecting the entry of three compact sedan by 2013, the Mahindra Verito CS, the Honda Brio Amaze and the Tata Manza CS. And now, the Hyundai i20 CS is the latest entry to this segment.

The Hyundai i20 will be a replacement of the old generation Hyundai Accent. The Accent is comparatively doing low sales in India and Hyundai is struggling with the c segment. Moreover the Accent's popularity and sales had declined. The Accent is available only in petrol version, So the latest Hyundai i20 CS will be available in both petrol and diesel versions.

The Hyundai comes with vast improvements in its technical specification. The 1.2-liter dual VTVT petrol produces a maximum power of 84 bhp at 5200 rpm and a maximum torque of 116 Nm at 4000 rpm. The petrol engine is mated with a 5-speed manual gear box. The 1.4-litre diesel produces a maximum power of 90 bhp at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 224 Nm at 1750 rpm. The diesel engine is mated with 6-speed manual gear box. A 1.4 liter petrol automatic could also be offered.

Comparing to the Maruti Suzuki's Swift Dzire, we are expecting much more boot integration to the Hyundai i20. While the cars interior sports a classy, modern and sophisticated body, the exterior design is likely to be introduced in a sub-four meter length and provides a comfortable and posh feel.

Extension of hatch back to sedan is not new in Indian market, but hatchback is strong seller in India. The i20 is also one of the most expensive B+ segment hatchbacks in the Indian car market. The car is of great demand in Algerian market.

If the Hyundai i20 get success in the Indian market in transforming i20 into sub 4meter sedan, there is no doubt that it will heat up the competition thus can earn more customers. Since the competition among the compact segment became more crucial, Hyundai have to kept in mind about the price of i20. Hyundai can do their best to make use of the excise duty benefits.

So we are expecting Hyundai compact sedan at a price range of 5 to 7.5 lakhs. Let's wait for the Hyundai CS to strike the Indian market and cross the sale of 10,000 volume per month, which is the current selling rate of Maruti Suzuki's Swift Dzire.
