BMW i8 Spyder is Set for 2015

The next next-generation car from BMW.

Looking to the future, German maker BMW has disclosed the details of its upcoming super-car, the i8 Spyder. It is the third concept car by BMW in the 'i' line-up.



This car certainly represents the future of ultra-modern and emotional mobility concepts in the automobile sector. According to leaks the i8 Spyder will go on production in 2015, although it is not official.

The i8 Spyder is a dual-powered vehicle. While the front axle is powered by an electric motor which makes the car a plug-in-hybrid machine, the rear axle is taken by a three-cyinder petrol engine which delivers a peak power of 260 kW (354 hp) and a peak torque of 550 Nm.

It merely takes 5 seconds to clock 100 kph from standstill. It has great fuel efficiency as well as it needs just 3 liters to run 100 kms.

Meanwhile, the lithium-ion battery powered electric motor gets fully recharged in less than two hours at a standard household socket. The electric motor can lonely take the car up to 30 kms.

The i8 Spyder comes with shorter wheelbase and overall length compared to BMW's Coupe series. The highlight of this machine is its design that is comprised of upward-swinging doors, and transparent glass panel at the rear under which sufficient space is provided for a couple of electric kickboards.
