Tata Safari Storme Received Over 6,000 Bookings

Tata Safari Storme will compete with the Renault Duster and the Mahindra XUV500

Auto major, Tata Motors has got over 6,000 bookings for its latest upgraded Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) variant “Tata Safari Storme”. The Tata Safari Storme was first showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo and was launched in 17th October 2012.



The company has launched the Storme in northern and eastern markets and gradually introduced in southern and western Indian markets. After launching the variant in Tamil Nadu market, Ashesh Dhar, Head of Utility Vehicle Product Group, Tata Motors said,”This comes with the new VariCor engine, offering better refinement. We have got over 6,000 bookings (since its launch)”.

The vehicle is available in four variants, LX, EX, VX (4×2 and 4×4) will be available in seven color options - Urban Bronze, Sardinia Red, Pearl White, Pearl Champagne, Astern Black, Arctic White, Arctic Silver. The new SUV features some comprehensive improvements under the bonnet. The disc brakes equipped all round and the four wheel drive system can be electronically shifted on the fly. Tata is likely to upgrade the Safari by increasing the engine output, installing a high-end music system and an automatic transmission.

"This will be for those who look for better refinement offering sporty performance. That is a premium SUV loaded with luxury features", he said.

The main features of the Tata Safari Storme was that it comes with ESOF (electronic shift-on-fly) technology, enabling engagement of the 4×4 or 4X2 mode, on the move. As per the ARAI figures, the fuel economy of the 4X2 variants is 14 kmpl and that of 4X4 variant is 13.2 kmpl. The 2.2 L VariCOR engine, turbocharged with VTT (Variable Turbine Technology), delivers a maximum power of 142PS and a maximum torque of 320Nm. The engine comes mated to a 5- speed manual transmission.

Since the Tamil Nadu constitutes about 17 per cent of the Tata’s total SUV sales. Dhar said that the Tata's Sumo Gold has got an encouraging response since its launch in 2012. Dhar further added, “Sumo Gold has been very well received (in the market). It has surpassed sales of double its volumes since its launch".

The seven seater Safari Storme will be available at a starting price of Rs.9.95 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) is expected to be launch in all markets by February. Along with the Storme, the company would retail the previous generation Safari model equipped with a DiCor engine and is available at a price range of around 8.5 lakhs.

The Tata Safari Storme comes with a warranty of 3 years or 1,00,000kms whichever is earlier, extendable upto 4 years or 150,000 kms. The new SUV Safari Storme will be good competitor for Renault Duster and the Mahindra XUV500.
