Tata Nano Diesel Caught Testing in Pune

The Nano diesel will be available at a price of 2 lakh+

The much awaited diesel car, Tata Nano was spotted testing in Pune. By introduced world's cheapest car, Tata Nano in 2009, Tata surprised the Indian car market. The car has also earned the name as “People's car”.

The Nano diesel was being tested accompanied by the Aria and Indica Vista left hand drive. After the 2012-2013 Union Budget, most of the car companies twisted their path to the diesel engine. Moreover the petrol price is increasing day to day. Tata Motors could give the common man a cheap and an efficient vehicle in the form of Nano Diesel.

“We have worked with Tata Motors for Nano's petrol version and we are working with it for the diesel version too. The car has a two-cylinder, 700cc engine which develops healthy power without compromising on fuel efficiency.“ said, a Bosch India executive working on the Nano diesel project.

Engine:
The Tata Nano diesel engine will be powered by 700 cc twin-cylinder turbocharged DiCOR engine. Bosch will be providing the common rail direct injection system for the Nano Diesel. The vehicle comes with a 4 speed manual gear transmission. The engine delivers a maximum power of 35 Bhp and a maximum torque of 110 Nm. The car has a fuel tank capacity of 15 litres. The vehicle is expected to have a top speed of 90 kmph and a mileage of 40kmpl.

Interior:
A slight change is made on the interior of Nano diesel. The dashboard is finished in beige and the air vents have metal finishes. The vehicle features a hydraulically operated conventional hatchback door that will improvise the current boot space scenario.

Exterior:
The front and rear bumpers are redesigned so as to accommodate the bigger engine. To support the weight of diesel engine and for better control during higher speeds, the rear end tyres were made more larger. The boot of Nano diesel is conventional type like its other hatches which can be opened and closed. The rear glasses has become smaller. The front air inlets have been redesigned, and to facilitate this change, the fog light enclosures have been moved aside.

Tata Nano CNG

Tata Nano has already planned to launch the CNG version of Nano. The Nano diesel variant will be 20-30% more expensive than the Nano petrol variant. The Tata Nano diesel will be available at a starting price above 2lakh. The car is expected to be launched by the end of 2013.
