Renault Launches Scala CVT Automatic in India

Renault has launched the Scala CVT(Continuously Variable Transmission) in India. The automatic Renault Scala CVT has been named as the X-Tronic, is supplied from Nissan.


Engine:
Renault CVT automatic is powered by 1498 cc engine, which produces a peak power of 99 PS at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 134 Nm at 4000 rpm. The five seater comes with 5 speed transmission has a fuel tank capacity of 41 litres. As per the ARAI figures, the Renault Scala diesel variant have a fuel economy of 21.96 kmpl and for the petrol variant fuel economy is 16.95 kmpl. While the X-Tronic’s revolutionary fuel-efficient technology delivers the best–in-class mileage of 17.97 kmpl.



Features:
The CVT variant is equipped with a lot of features like dual airbags, 15-inch sporty alloys wheels, electronically adjustable mirrors, automatic climate control, multi-information display and chrome-polished door handles. While the RXZ variant comes with the additional features of automatic foldable mirrors, leather upholstery and chrome radiator grille.



The safety features included in Scala CVT are Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.

Speaking on the occasion, Marc NASSIF, the Managing Director of Renault India Pvt. Ltd. said, “With more and more cars on the road as well as frequent stop-and-go traffic, India has been seeing an increase in demand for automatic sedans in recent years. However, despite the growing interest for these cars, petrol automatic vehicles are still limited to a 6% share in the premium sedan segment because they deliver lower mileage and higher cost of ownership”. 



The CVT, which has been used in Nissan Teana, is now reworked for ensuring smoother shifting performance. And for the very first time X-tronic CVT is applied in the Renault Scala. Compared to conventional torque converter autos, CVTs have smoother shifting gearboxes and shows better fuel efficiency. This is because of the unlimited number of gears that it can choose from based on the engine’s conditions, whereas the torque converter has a fixed number of gears to choose from.

Price
The Renault Scala diesel variants, RxL and RxZ is priced at Rs 8.79 lakh and 9.68 lakh respectively. While the petrol variants, RxL and RxZ is priced at Rs.7.95 lakh and Rs.8.79 lakh respectively. The RxL X-Tronic CVT and RxZ X-Tronic will be available at Rs.8.99 lakh and Rs.9.89 lakh.

Renault Scala AT sedan is expected to be compete with the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki SX4, Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento. The vehicle will be available in various colors – Solid Black, Metallic Silver, Metallic Blue and Metallic Red.
