Fiat Punto Abarth to Launch in India by June 2013

Punto Abarth will be the first Abarth vehicle to be launched in India

The Italian racing car manufacturer, Abarth makes its way into India via Fiat. Abarth is a high performance brand like AMG version of Mercedes Benz. Punto Abarth will be the first Abarth vehicle to be launched in India. The four wheeler will come with both turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines.



Abarth Punto will be powered by a 1.4 litre Multiair petrol engine producing 165 BHP of power and 250 Nm of torque. The existing Fiat Grande Punto's petrol variant (1.2 litre engine) is available in 65 bhp and diesel variant (1.3 litre) in 90 bhp and 75 bhp. While he 500 Abarth possesses a 1.4 liter 16 valve, 136 bhp turbo petrol engine, weights 1035 kgs.

Reports tells that Fiat will get the 1.6-litre Mutijet to India too in due course of time for use in the Linea and Jeep SUVs. Initially, the company will be offering 500 Abarth and Grande Punto Evo which will be sold through Fiat dealerships.

The Punto Abarth launched in International markets with a two door version. But for India the Punto Abarth will be offered in four door version. In order to distinguish this new model with standard version, Fiat will put Abarth logo in place of Fiat. The Punto Abarth comes with a more sporty suspension set up and the engine will be adaptive to the Indian conditions. The Abarth will also launch a high performance version of other Fiat cars as well.

Abarth 500

Abarth Punto will come with a different setup that the car getting stiffer springs, thicker anti roll bars and sporty dampers When the cosmetic changes is concerned, Punto will get Abarth badging on both the interior and exterior.
The Punto Abarth will be priced affordable unlike the other performance hatchbacks which are priced above 20 lakh. So we can expect the Punto Abarth at a pretty affordable and cheap price of around 9 lakh.

The Fiat Punto Abarth will be the most powerful hatchback below the Mini Cooper S. Fiat Punto Abarth will be manufactured at the company’s Ranjangaon facility in India. Assembling the vehicle locally will help to cut off the price and will become more competitive. Fiat has the plan to increase its dealer and service network, their aim is to open 110 dealerships across India by the end of 2013. The vehicle may compete with the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Fiesta.
