The Cross Country is a version of the Volvo V40 with protective body panels, bigger wheels and tyres along with an increased ride height. Its T5 petrol variant features All Wheel Drive, along with Hill Descent Control. The V40 Cross Country is equipped with more powerful engines than the regular V40. The Volvo V40 Cross Country, featuring a unique blend of ruggedness and expensive elegance, is now also available with the new four-cylinder, two-liter Drive-E powertrains. The Drive-E powertrains offer a world-class blend of drivability and low CO2 emissions. The CO2 emissions of 245hp T5 engine with automatic gearbox are down to 149 g/km, and those of the 190hp D4 with manual gearbox are down to 104 g/km. In addition, the V40 Cross Country features class-leading driving dynamics with All Wheel Drive available on the T5 version to enhance the all-road, all-weather capability. The Volvo V40 Cross Country also comes with the new connected infotainment system Sensus Connect and can be specified with the improved top-of-the line Premium Sound system by Harman Kardon.
The driver rides 40mm higher in the V40 Cross Country than in the standard V40. This capable impression is enhanced by a number of unique Cross Country details, including wheels up to 19inches in a diameter, a front with dark, contrasting bumper, honeycomb mesh grille and upright DRL-lights and the contrasting rear bumper with integrated skid plate. The five-door, five-seat premium all-roader features refined off-road inspired details such as anodized, black high-gloss frame around the greenhouse, the black rear-view mirror housings and the sleek rails floating over the roof.
Initially, the V40 Cross Country can be equipped with two engines from the four-cylinder Drive-E engine family, the 245hp petrol turbo T5 and the turbo diesel D4 with 190hp. To deliver the desired responsive, smooth and fuel-efficient drivability, the Drive-E engines are teamed with either Volvo Cars new eight-speed automatic gearbox or an enhanced six-speed manual tuned for improved fuel economy. Versions with the automatic gearbox have paddles on the steering wheel for manual gear shifting when desired. The T5 engine is combined with the eight-speed gearbox to maximum effect. The diesel engine of the vehicle is to be highlighted, the new D4 Drive-E turbo diesel comes with 190hp and 400Nm of torque. Fuel consumption in a V40 Cross Country with a manual gearbox is down to 4.0 I/100Km, which corresponds to CO2 of 104 g/km. The engine features world-first i-ART technology with pressure feedback from each fuel injector instead of using a traditional single pressure sensor in the common rail. Each injector has an intelligent chip on top of it that monitors injection pressure. Using this information, the self-adapting I-ART system makes sure that the ideal amount of fuel is injected during each combustion cycle. The combination of injection pressure at 2,500 bar and I-ART technology gives the customer an engine with high performance, improved fuel economy and considerably lower emissions. The diesel also features refinements such as state-of-the-art twin-turbo, reduced friction and a smart valve solution on the cooling system for a more rapid heat-up phase after a cold start.
