The Design and Structure
The all-new Tiguan is based on the VWs newly developed modular transverse matrix, known as the MQB platform used for front engined, front wheel drive vehicles. It is one innovative product from the brand which can underpin small-sized sedans to large SUVs. And Tiguan is the first SUV to be made on this platform. Unlike other SUVs in the Indian market, it doesn't have any aggressive styling or overly shaped body structure. Like the predecessor Toureg and Atlas, it is a simple and more mature looking SUV. But it resembles some of its styling features from the popular Passat and Golf GTI. Especially the front grille and the iconic body lines that running from head to tail boosts up the SUV silhouette.
One of the iconic family element such as Chrome finished grille along with the compact-shaped LED headlamp looks pretty decent. LED headlamp is accompanied by LED DRls, which is found in Audi and high-end VWs. This SUV weighs 2250 kg and it measures 4486mm in length and 1839mm wide.
Being a flagship model, Tiguan is feature studded SUV. VW has imposed all available advanced features in this model to put out a real fight against the rivals such as Ford Endeavour, New Toyota Fortuner, Upcoming Skoda Kodiaq (sibling) and the new Isuzu MU-X. Some of its cool features such as Auto Dim IRVM and 3-zone automatic climate control system is unique to the Tiguan. moreover, it is compatible with the Google's Android Auto and Apple's Car Play system. Volkswagen cars are well efficient in their safety standards. And the new Tiguan gets Hill decent control mode, pedestrian protection-reactive hood and 6-air bags for collision protection.
Some of its convenience features include front centre armrest with storage space, large front boot space, panoramic sunroof, 8-inch LCD touch screen infotainment media and drive mode selector. This 5-seater SUV gets a 3-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with several control buttons such as telephone and music system.
Suspension System and Braking
Tiguan features one of the most tried and tested McPherson Strut type suspension with lower transverse link and stabilizer bar at the front and it uses Multi-Link suspension system at the rear. The Comfortline features 17-inch alloy wheels while Highline gets 18-inch alloy wheels. Stopping force of the vehicle is controlled by disc brakes at 4 wheels.
Tiguan is one good looking, SUV with neat and elegant design by maintaining the iconic VW styling all over the vehicle. Without looking at the company logo one could easily identify that this SUV is from the famous German brand. With the absence of Toureg in the Indian market for years, Tiguan could be the key player for them in this current scenario. The engine refinement, built quality and the reliability of Volkswagen models could be their main highlights. After all, VW cars are meant for real driving pleasure and they are driver's cars. that, this 5-seater SUV have an electrically operated tailgate with adjustable opening angles.
